Black Paper Series

Early in his art career, John fell in love with the vibrant, high contrast color produced by wax pencils against black paper. He preferred to work with a rough tooth paper. The incredible beauty with black paper, albeit also a curse, is the unforgiving nature of an unexpected slide of hand. He took meticulous care to ensure his lines were razor sharp, and color choices were complimentary and striking. This series is by far his most extensive in terms of creativity and quantity produced.
